Teacher Negotiations

I was catching up on the H-I from this past week and was reading Sunny's Column. I take exception with the characterization that the board is not involved in the process or aware of how the process is working. That is not the case in my opinion.

Because of the sensitive nature of this discussion I WILL NOT make comments or posts regarding it after this. If you have questions please contact me directly and I will provide as much information as I can. Just be aware that we are restricted in what we can discuss and I WILL NOT stray anywhere close to crossing that line.

I know that will seem like the easy way out to some, but be assured that it is not. However, there is a process for these negotiations and I will not in any way do or say anything that would impact them negatively.

  1. Jason - My understanding is that the contract is between the Board of Education and the Union of the teachers. Is it true that not one board member is regularly present at the negotiation meetings, nor has been for over a year since negotiations started? I respect your position to not talk about things that would put the process at risk so if you can not comment, just reply that you choose not to comment. My understanding is that the "gag order" is on the content, not the representation. This format appears odd for a group that has a record of seeking enormous quantities of first hand information before making a decision.

  2. Dear Anonymous,

If you would like to discuss this further please call or e-mail me and we can meet to discuss this in person. Because it is too easy to have misunderstandings with the written word I will not discuss the negotiations on my blog. It is just the stance that I am going to take.

That being said, I welcome everyone to call or e-mail to arrange a time to meet and then I will answer any questions that I can. Thank you for understanding the reasoning behind my stance.
